Christmas "Tis the season"

With Christmas right around the corner I find myself watching all the movie that I used to as a kid. A lot over the thanksgiving break I watched, Jingle all the way, Elf several times, and also A Christmas Story. I love the way that each is filmed. There is a lot to the filming, and while really watching all of them a lot look like the use a lot of editing, and also effect. Also with the snow scenes some of them actually being real, and especially lighting starts to eb a real problem at times.the lighting is a big part. Also the shots that are taken are not always safe, some of them are really abstract, and it is really interesting once you really look.

Not Cool for School

While starting to really come together on our short fiction piece, and putting together the story board I am very excited to actually get started. I believe that this idea is a lot better than the first we had due to our time constraints. I also do believe that we are going to enjoy shooting it a lot more. It is comical and we are able to have fun with it, and it is going to give us a chance to be able to play around with the characters, and be able to really put it together, and convey our idea. I also believe that in the beginning I thought that this project was going to be there hardest to really be able to find an idea, and be able to show it all in about 3 minutes, and after we found our idea, it was a lot easier to be able to connect with our piece.

Citizen Kane

The reading on Citizen Kane was very interesting. I feel like I got a lot out of it as far as understanding all the time, and how things worked. The film engendered controversy (and efforts at suppression in early 1941 and efforts at suppression in early 1941 through intimidation, blackmail, newspaper smears, discrediting and FBI investigations) before it premiered in New York City. They went out of the box, and didn't care what anyone thought. They used a lot of dramatic lighting, and also the way they also used the camera was very different at that time. Citizen Kane also came around the same time as around the 1930's there was a lot of break through as far as lighting (boom mic), lamps, and also audio has a major break through also. I believe that Citizen Kane really started a way for different shooting, and really started a whole knew thought of how thing could be shot.

ELF!!

With thanksgiving, and Christmas being right around the corner I can't help but break out Elf, it is my favorite movie of all time. I honestly watch it every night before Christmas. It is one of my favorite things to do. I love everything about that movie. At this point I feel like I have already seen it way to many times at this point, and love it way to much to even look at it with a very critical eye. I know almost every word. I think that when i watched it with a critical eye I saw a lot of computer generating and also a lot going on in editing. There a lot of angels hat they took as for as when they showed santa, and everything else. Also I loved the way that they showed the north pole. Really it was way to hard for me to criticize about it because i love it so much, that it was difficult.

Fiction Piece

Now starting on the fiction piece was very different at first we ( Erin Bates) and i have no idea what to do. We were thinking very in the box... We thought that really we were just going to do a fairy tale, or talk about some one thing very Cliche, and we were not very excited to work on the project because we were just not "into it", as we were other projects. But then we thought about all the things that we could do. For instance we thought of the great idea about a superhero, and came up with a story about a boy who has self esteem issues and then finds himself acting like a super hero but when really in fact  he was his own superhero that he had never seen. I believe that the angles, shots, and lighting that we can take on this can really make it fun to watch. Also i believe the character can really shine through on this on the way to the fact that we portray it.

Repo Men

In the middle of the week I decided to watch Repo men because i heard that t was a good movie, and that it really made you think. I decided to watch it two times. One for entertainment , and the next time to watch it with a critical eye. When i watched it the first time I thought that it was an alright movie, thinking back on it i felt like it took to long to give you the back ground on the story, and it was supposed to be a suspense movie and there really was not that much of it. the movie is about people who need organs, and things to live for example a heart, lung, ears, eyes, and kidneys, and if you do not pay within the 3 months that you need to you go over due, and these repo men come looking for you and they take what is theirs and leave you to die. They feel like if you don't pay, then it is not yours. It ends up being that the best repo an that they have ends up needing a heart, and that he cant pay for it, and goes in hiding.  The movie sounds a lot more intense that really it was in the end. The second time I watched it they really had a lot of good shots. the also o a lot of shadowing, they try to make the dramatic lighting an effort to make the feel for things more dramatic. they also do a lot of crazy angles tat I never really noticed until I looked for it. At one point they actually go over the main characters shoulder both shoulders one after another. Which I found very interesting after I had learned hat we were not really supposed to do that, but the way that they did it was very interesting.

Enchanted- Disney

Last night I wanted enchanted again for the first time in a while, even thought i have seen it like 44 times, after not watching it for a little while i really enjoyed it. But at times i saw myself ripping  apart everything. The angels in the movie are very interesting at one point they go from characters, and then to real life. which is a very cool transition. In the movie they try to tell all the stories of the classic Disney princesses. I love the way they shot the whole thing in general, they take the different angles, and it really makes the movie such a better way depicted. I feel like they didn't take safe shots, but they really don't have to because they are disney and anything they do will at some point be loved by someone. I do believe that in enchanted they take a lot of risks, and also the coloring and shadows in it is fantastic, and the graphics, are believable but like it still looks very interesting. Disney movies really just make you feel like a little kid. No matter who you are , or how old you are. Disney finds a way of slipping into your heart.

MTV- Teen Mom

Lately while I was home and sick and could not move I got a lot of MTV watching in from about 3, till 6 and the way they shot these girls in "real life", and the interviews, really depict the meaning in the whole thing. Like the fact that they had babies at 16 was not depicting enough, they show you everything about everything, but there is a part of me that thinks that  they really just make everything a lot more dramatic then it was. Yes having a child at 16 is in fact dramatic but the things I'm talking about is that hey had to have edited it and cut out the good times, and added in the struggle. A lot of how you shot something can say a lot about the angle your trying to convey to your audience. Even slight turn of events, and the way it is shot really makes a difference.

MTV; True Life

I was lucky enough to talk to the producer of true life ; my mom went to school with him and then we talked alot abaout how he edits things and how he has to cut it. It was crazy to think that really he is doing the same thing, he loves what he does and he wouldn't change it for the world. There is so much that we talked about that is was astonishing the way he connects and does things.

Documentary

there is so many different documentaries that I have been watching lately and it really is very interesting to see qothers take on the world the day, and really how they positions their thoughts to you. No matter what kind of film it is in some point or way someone is conveying the way that they think to you. In many ways the way you present your documentary can really pro trey your idea a lot more clearly than you think it might . Many that I have seen so far really stood out to me. Ones that really struck close was the drug ones, and drug abbuse. The way that true life documents i think is sometimes not as real as we depict it all at times.

Working wiht the camera

So now that I know how to use a camera ( well trying to pretend like i do) I feel as if it is and was a lot easier before i ever knew anything. Now i am so picky in what I do and how i do it. White balance is what i think about the most I HATE when something is blue, and the way everything gets tinted. Also another one of my pet peeves is the shadows when it is on someones face. there are so many things after just learning what i have learned so far that bother me.

How College Girls Workout!

While making the snip-it of how college girls workout i learned a lot about the camerea and it was also a lot of fun. I figured if we were going to have to do the assignment why not do it to something that everyone can kind of relate to. Why not show what everyone thinks but no one comes right out and says. Girls tend to workout like that or get ready, to get ready, to flirt with , to talk to, to get ready, and then to work out for like 1*2 minutes at a time and then they jsut stop. it was really funny to show how things really go down at times.

Documentary of a blind man;

I watched a documentary on a blind man last night and it wa very moving. It showed you in the begginign jsut black and voices for about the first 5 mins. I loved the way that it gave you the insight of how a blind person feels at all times. the way they filmed it wasnt a normal way of depictioning things it really amde you think you saw what life would be like and also it showed a lot about the different way th9ings can be shot in stead of focusing on the person a lot it focused on it surroundings and really how things and people worked around them, and how people really feel about the way people are and how they react to people, and dont know them. I loved also the way he tore aprt the filming he didnt necesarilly make it flow and I think that is what I enjoyed the most was the way he made it so different, and at time contraversale.

After the death of film

While reading this passage i thought a alot about the movie set that i worked on over the past 2 summers about 2 years ago and a lot of the bases that they touched on reminded me of this in the way that the movies, and films argue our ways of culture and the way that it portrayed itself in thepassage really picked up on a few things that really sparked my attention.

Resolutions

The reading was quite the interesting one in the fact that it talked alot about how things really started , and how a lot of things piggy backed off eachother its crazy to really think about a world without video, and without a lot of the things that we live with day to day. The reading was very interesting and made me think a lot about a lot and made me really take a step back and think about what i am doing and really how hard people had to work, and how may things had to happen.

Day 1!

Well the only thing i know as of right now is how to turn on a camera so this semester will be quite interesting in the fact that i will be learning how to edit, cut place together, it is going to be something all so new to me. I am eager to experience and i can not wait to broaden the horizons of what i can do, in and out of my career.
